Today we focus on the words that King David writes כי יצפנני בסכה ביום רעה This is translated as He will shelter me in sukkah it hut on a day of evil. How is this reassuring to be in a sukkah or hut when there is evil lurking? Wouldn’t we want to be in a more secure place ?

This is translated as “one thing I ask from G-d that I truly desire” The thing he asks for and desires is to stay in the house if G-d all the days of his life. What does King David mean by being in the House of G-d all the days of his life? Is that to be taken literally??

Elul Daily insight #8: We continue to study chapter 27 of Tehilim/Psalms. King David writes אחת שאלתי מאת ה׳ אותה אבקש שבתי בבית ה׳ כל ימי חיי. This is translated as “one thing I ask from G-d that I truly desire” The thing he asks for and desires is to stay in the house if G-d all the days of his life. What does king David mean when refers to his ask and desire? Is there a difference?

Elul Daily Insight #7: We continue to study chapter 27 of Tehilim/psalms. King David writes, אם תחנה עלי מחנה לא יירא לבי אם תקום עלי מלחמה בזאת אני באח. It’s translated as should an army besiege me, my heart would have no fear. Should war rise up against me I would still believe in this. What’s the difference between an army besieging him and a war rising up? Is there a difference between the reaction to either threat ?

Elul Daily Insight #6: We continue to study chapter 27 of Tehilim/Psalms. בקרב עלי מרעים לאכול את בשרי צרי ואיבי לי המה כשלו ונפלו. This is translated as “when my tormentors approach me to devour my flesh it t is they who stumble and fall.” King David seems to be saying that anyone the attempt to hurt a person with faith will not be successful and will stumble. How is that consistent with reality when we have seen so many righteous people suffer??

Elul Daily Insight # 5: We continue to focus on the first verse of Chapter 27 of Tehilim/Psalms. לדוד ה׳ אורי וישעי ממי אירא ה׳ מעוז חיי ממי אפחד. Of David, G-d is my light and salvation. Whom should I fear? G-d is the strength of my life. Whom shall I dread. The Hebrew words of מורא and פחד are translated as fear and dread. What is actually the difference between the two?
